How to care for your painted furniture

Firstly, thank you for buying or commissioning me to paint a piece of furniture for you! The paint I used to paint your piece is of top quality to ensure it lasts for many years to come, if cared properly. I always recommend eggshell or satinwood finishes, which are the most durable, waterproof and hard-wearing finishes you can get for painted furniture.

Here are some tips on how to look after your painted furniture to ensure it stays in perfect condition for longer:

1. Upon delivery of your painted piece, please allow about 2 weeks for the curing process to complete. During this time, please avoid placing any objects (such as vases, photo frames, lamps etc) directly onto the painted surface.

2. How to clean: To clean your painted furniture, simple wipe it over with a damp cloth once a week or so to remove the dust. It is advised NOT to use furniture cleaning sprays as they contain chemicals or alcohol which will most probably damage the paint.

3. Water spills should be removed immediately.

4. Please avoid placing cups or glasses directly over your painted surface. Instead, always use a cork or felt-bottom coaster to protect your furniture.

5. Don’t place your painted furniture next to a radiator or next to a door glass where there is strong and direct sun exposure. Instead, keep in a location in the house where changes in temperature will be less extreme. Similarly, avoid placing any hot items directly onto the surface.

6.  If you are planning on placing any decorative pieces over your painted surface (vases, lamps etc), please use felt backing underneath those objects.

7. Painted wooden chairs: Never place painted chairs upside down on your table (for example, when you want to mob the floor) as the rubbing between the two hard surfaces will most probably cause the paint to get scratched.

8. Your painted furniture is for indoor use only. Please do not use it outdoors.
